My name is Theresa Andersen and I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I respectfully submit this recommendation of Vickie Ehrlekrona for AKC Breeder of Merit. I purchased my first Papillon in 1983 after falling in love with the breed after I saw them for the first time at an all breed dog show in Houston. I was looking for a devoted, toy-sized companion dog that I could take with me everywhere and was so enamored with these lively and adorable little doges. Papillons have been members of my family ever since – I currently have four.
In December 2006 I purchased a wonderful male Papillon puppy named Tucker from Vickie. I appreciate what it takes to be a quality breeder and have always sought out reputable breeders when it came time to add another Papillon to my family. The experience of finding a Papillon today is much easier today than it was before the existence of the internet and personal breeder websites that provide helpful information as well as advertise available dogs. While many breeders do not have the time or interest in maintaining a comprehensive or up to date website, as a prospective buyer I truly appreciate those who do. The hours of trying to locate breeders, phone them and get on waiting lists can be an arduous task. As a member of the Papillon Club of America I have contact information for the breeders in the Club which is a great starting point many Papillon seekers do not have. In 2006, after finding none of the breeders in my immediate area currently had puppies available I began searching the internet. This is how I found Vickie.
Vickie has an amazing website that contains a wealth of information about the Papillon breed as well as her kennels. To this day I find it to be one of the best. Her passion for her dogs radiates from her stories and the biographies of her dogs. When contacting her by phone or by email, she was always more than happy to answer questions and provide information. She also did a great job in checking me out as a potential buyer. She required the completion of a thorough application which gave her very good insight into the home I would provide. Her purchase contract is very detailed and thorough. She has made every effort to make sure all terms and conditions were clear to both parties. I was purchasing Tucker as a pet and Vickie clearly indicated up front that she would require a neuter agreement.
Since it would be several weeks before Tucker would be old enough for me to bring home Vickie provided me with detailed information on Tucker’s progress on a regular basis. This included a stream of photos as he developed which I still enjoy looking at from time to time. Since December in Montana is very cold, shipping Tucker would have been risky, so I flew to Montana to pick him up. This was a great experience as I was able to see Tucker’s litter mate and his parents. All were awesome. Vickie also breeds amazing Savannah cats which are socialized with her dogs. It was a treat to see this interaction. Needless to say Tucker was quite a well socialized little puppy.
Tucker has grown from being an incredibly adorable puppy to the handsome adult he is today. He is a terrific representation of the breed. While I purchased him strictly as a pet I am certain he could have easily earned his conformation championship. He is an outgoing boy who knows no strangers. He has added immeasurable joy to our home. At 4˝ years of age, Tucker has been a picture of good health. In short, I could not have asked for a better experience in my dealings with Vickie and feel blessed every day for having Tucker in my life. I recommend Vickie to anyone seeking a high quality Papillon and feel her reputation and years of dedication to this wonderful breed make her worthy of the honor of AKC Breeder of Merit.
